I am compiling a list of 52 ways to be frugal or save money in 2017. The plan is to post one each week on Friday. Most, if not all, of these tips will be things that we actually do. However, if there is an idea that you want me to share let me know!
#6 – HE washing machine
When we moved a year ago, our new house had a front loading HE washer in it. This was all new to me since we previously had a 10 year old top loader. After a year of using the HE machine I can definitely see that it has saved us some money! Remember that we did not have the initial cost of the machine to factor in (approx.. $700).
In the last year our water bill has consistently been $10 less per month and we are using less detergent. My last bottle lasted me 10 months!
At our old house our water bill was $60 and I purchased detergent every 3 months at $10 per bottle.
Cost with top loader machine per year – $820
Cost with HE front loader per year – $610
I was shocked! If we had purchased the HE machine ourselves it would have paid for itself in a little over 3 years. I am certainly being swayed to the claim that HE machines save money and energy!
Running total of money saved:
Napkins – $18
Dryer Balls – $72
Cleaning Cloths – $84
Diva Cup – $23
Cleaning solutions – $24
HE washing machine – $210
Total amount saved: $431
